ABOUT ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is a Nigerian union of university academic staff, founded in 1978.

The ASUU was formed in 1978, a successor to the Nigerian Association of University Teachers formed in 1965 and covering academic staff in all of the Federal and State Universities in the country.

The Union was active in struggles against the military regime during the 1980s.

In 1988 the union organized a National Strike to obtain fair wages and university autonomy.

As a result, the ASUU was proscribed on 7 August 1988 and all its property seized.

It was allowed to resume in 1990, but after another strike was again banned on 23 August 1992.

However, an agreement was reached on 3 September 1992 that met several of the union’s demands including the right of workers to collective bargaining.

About the ASUU Scholarship Program for Undergraduates.

As a union established in 1978, the Academic Union of Universities was established to protect the interest of students and the Nigerian universities at large. ASUU scholarship foundation has just been established recently. The aim of the scholarship program is to increase the quality of education in Nigeria through fundings. The ASUU scholarship award will come with a certain amount of payments for individuals who are qualified and awarded this scholarship.

The scholarship requires you to be a student in an accredited university in Nigeria by NUC, and that individuals deemed fit for this award will pass some processes of application before he/she will be granted.

Scholarship Type

The scholarship headed by the ASUU president, Professor Victor Emmanuel Osodeke has its rules tied strictly for individuals who are in their undergraduate studies. Knowingly, the scholarship is newly established and It is only available for undergraduates at the moment.

ASUU Scholarship Award

The scholarship award granted by the Nigerian  Academic Staff Union of Universities is at a fixed amount. Although the scholarship is granted to a large number of students across the country. The fee rewarded is about NGN100,000.

Eligibility For ASUU Undergraduates Scholarship 2022/2023

In order to be eligible to apply and be granted the ASUU scholarship award, individuals must have the following requirements needed. 

1. Applicants must be indigents
2. Applicants must be registered student  of a university with a recognized ASUU Branch.
3. Applicants must be in their second year of study or above.
4. Applicants must have at least ​​​​​5 O'level credit passes (English and Mathematics inclusive) at one sittings
5. Applicants must not hold any other scholarship award.

Document Required for ASUU Scholarship For Undergraduates 2022/2023

• For verification, applicants must present their JAMB & University letter of admission
• You must present your current student’s ID Card, a photocopy of it is needed
• A signed letter from the applicants Head of Department with the candidate’s academic information particularly CGPA with the previous one included
• You must also present a copy of your registration number from the previous session
• Two recent passport photographs.

Requirements For ASUU Scholarship For Undergraduates 2022/2023

Applicant must have a good academic performance (CGPA of 3.0 And Above).

Value Of Award

The Scholarship  at the rate of one hundred thousand naira only (N100,000) per beneficiary will be awarded on the 12th November 2022 (HEROES DAY) on a one-off basis.

How To Apply For ASUU Scholarship For Undergraduates 2022/2023 

Application for ASUU Scholarship award is done and completed offline within your school. All the eligible interested applicants are required to submit an application letter of not less than 2 pages along with the following information.

1. Name of candidates
2. Course & Year of Study.
3. State of origin
4. Application Letter Must be accompanied by the following:-A photocopy of the applicant’s current identity card.
5. A letter from the candidate’s current head of department including current information on the candidate’s CGPA for the preceding academic session.
6. A copy of the candidate’s registration form for the current semester.
7. Two (2) current passport photographs.
8. Detail reasons why you believe you should be given the award 

All applicants are required to submit this scholarship application to the ASUU Secretariat in their institution. 

Deadline For ASUU Scholarship For Undergraduates 2022/2023

Branches are expected to complete the selection monitoring  by zonal coordinators and the names of the awarded forwards before the 30th September 2022.

Any branches that fail to work within the timeline shall be left out from the award for the year 2022.
