In its unending quest towards the development and improvement of education system in Nigeria, the Yobe State Government under the leadership of his Excellency Mai Mala Buni, has graciously donated a large number of computer sets to Bayero University Library.
The Governor, who was represented by Professor Mohammed Minkail, Commissioner for Higher Education Science and Technical Yobe State, was received at the library by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Sagir Abbas, University Librarian, Dr. Musa Auyo and other principal officers on 19th January, 2022. Presenting the 100 laptop computers to the Vice Chancellor, the representative of the governor, said the solicitation for donation was very apt taking into cognizance the fact that the world is ICT driven and considering the turn the education system is taking due to the covid-19 lockdown which necessitated e-learning.
He said collaboration between Bayero University and Yobe State University would boost staff development and enhance the teaching and research of the state University. According to him it was necessary for every government to pay good attention to education as it is the backbone of progress and development.
He also advised the University management to upgrade its Post graduate programs to the international level so that upcoming universities can emulate and staff do not have to travel to other countrie to pursue post graduate studies. He also commended the University’s special needs section, promising to convey to the governor the need for the state to do same in the different educational institutions of the state.
The University Librarian, Dr. Auyo, said the computers came at a very good time and would boost the e-learning of the library. He expressed the hope that this is the beginning of several other engagements with the good government of his Excellency, Mai Mala Buni.
The Vice Chancellor Professor Sagir Abbas termed the day as a special considering the large donation sent from the Yobe State in prompt response to the letter soliciting for assistance towards the betterment of the library which came also at a very important period as the university was undergoing accreditation. He commended the excellent work of the governor especially in the education sector of Yobe state and beyond.
The Vice Chancellor promised to extend the University’s collaboration with Yobe State institutions and noted that the University was doing all it can to upgrade its postgraduate programmes in line with the best practises.
